Barb and Family, we are so sorry for your tremendous loss. Bill was such a sweet, fun-loving person, who also had a big heart. When we meet you thirty odd years ago, after Alice and Billy got married, I thought you two were the perfect couple! You would play off against each other and have such fun doing it. You were role models for those of us just starting down the marriage road. Forward 25 years later and we were camping buddies. We picked up like it was yesterday! What fun we had camping with the nightly campfires. When we heard two nights ago about what happened, we were devastated. Bill was more than a friend, he was a gentleman to both of us with the same time, laughing his head off when you go through the new chair! Oh how we all will miss him. We pray that God will give you the strength to get through your tremendous loss. Hugs to each of you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill many years ago while trying earn a spot on a minor hockey team . Although passed over by many coaches Bill encouraged me to drop by his practice for another try. Little did I know that by giving me this opportunity he contributed to a lifetime of enjoyment from a sport that he loved. I still play and remember where I got my start. I was also fortunate enough to work with Bill many years after our first meeting when I joined Newfoundland Telephone. Many great memories that I will carry forward.

Barbara and family, so sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. I called Dad today to let him know and we both shared Pioneer stories about Bill. Dad especially loved hearing him play piano. Please know we are thinking of you..

To the Family of Mr.Butt,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of a lovely gentleman. Myself and my Husband Scott both worked with him at Mile One. He was never without a smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. God Bless

Our deepest sympathy, Barb, Debbie, Darlene, Billy and Scott. Bill was a kind and generous man, always welcoming and friendly. We will miss his music and good company and are very sorry for your loss. Love to you all.

I first met Bill nearly 44 years ago. I recall not knowing what to call him when Darlene and I first started dating and were eventually married. For a couple of years I always waited for eye contact before I spoke to him, eventually I was able to wrap my mind around calling him Bill and get away from the “Mr” moniker that burden me for those first few years. I don’t know if he ever picked up on my uncomfortable feeling when it came to salutations but if so he never made me feel the less for it.
Bill and I were from polar opposites when it came to social interactions; Bill was the center of attention at every gathering while I was only too happy to hang out on the periphery of the crowds far from the spotlight. Our lives diverged physically when Darlene and I moved across the country to Vancouver but in other ways I thought we got closer as Bill and Barb came out west to visit on a nearly annual basis and I have no doubt that I interacted more with Bill in Vancouver than I ever did when we lived in St John’s.
I do not recall a single harsh word ever spoken between the two of us and given my own lack of social skills that is a feat that I must credit to Bill in achieving.
Although I could not share in his enthusiasm for performing music I did share his enthusiasm for hockey and the last time we met in person was to go to an NHL hockey game together on his birthday with his son Scott and his Great Grandson Ollie.
He will be missed.

Barb & Family; Words cannot express the great sadness that we feel. Bill was a wonderful person with a great smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time and in the days to come. May your many happy memories give you comfort and peace. God Bless and Keep You.

Barb our deepest condolences to you and your family. Certainly never expected this. Take care of yourselves. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Barb,, deepest sympathies to you and your family. I first met Bill when I went to work at Newfoundland Telephone.. Whenever I was in his presence, he always had a joke to brighten my day. I also knew Bill from hockey when he coached and referred. He was a good man whose large personality will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. My deepest condolences to Barb, Debbie & family.

Dear Barbara and all the family, We are so very, very, sorry for your loss. Bill was a wonderful friend to all, a dedicated Pioneer (really the heart of the FPLMC along with you, Barbara), a talented musician, an excellent raconteur of funny stories and jokes, and a kind, thoughtful and considerate human being.. To be thought of so highly by so many people, is a true tribute to what an impact he made on the lives of so many. We will cherish our memories of him and hope that you all find comfort in your sweet memories. Deepest sympathies and love to all.

I have wonderful memories of Bill for many years as we played together and as he played with dad. So many family gatherings and so much music and joy. I’m so sad to hear of his passing today. It fills me with great sorrow to think of such a profound loss to all who knew him and to all he touched through his music, laughter and generosity of spirit. Bill is part of the foundation upon which your family was built. He had a quick wit and a quicker smile. He was devilish and angelic all at once. He had complete love for his family above all. I’m deeply sorry for your loss. I know how sad this is for the whole family.

Barbara and family: So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He will certainly be missed by all of us. Hold on to your many memories. Prayers and thoughts are with you.

To the Butt family. Shocked & saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He was such a kind & caring individual. Always ready with a great story or joke. You would always be left with a smile after speaking with Bill. His love of family was evident to all who knew him. Sorry Bill, but your piano playing was definitely better than your hockey reffing. RIP my friend.

Barbara I am so sorry for your loss, it seems that ever since Bill and I met when we were twelve year olds in the Sea Cadet Band we were always doing things together. He was a good friend to many and will be missed greatly by many knew him. May he rest in peace.
