It is with deep sadness the family of Winston Gillingham announce his passing on July 13, 2023 after a short illness.

Winston is pre-deceased by his son Maurice, parents Chatfield and William Gillingham; sister Megretta Gillingham; brother Eddie Gillingham; father-in-law and mother-in-law Stewart and Florence Foote; sister-in-law Linda Foote.

Winston leaves to mourn with loving and precious memories, his wife of 36 years, Anne; his children: Rebecca (Andrew), Joshua (Jessica), Perry (Christine), Barry (Leann) and Justin (Wendy); Daughter in Law: Rita;  Grandchildren: Ada, Nikki, Dennis, Andrew, Katie (Cody), Preston, Heather, Jack, Zachary (Victoria), Jasmine (Joey), and Jakob; Great-Grandchildren: Letti, Lenox, and Talon; Sisters: Sybil (Tony) Power, Bessie (Osborne) Reid; Brothers: Frank (Beatrice), Nelson (Iris); sister-in-law Ellen (Don) Hutchings; brother-in-law Stewart Foote; sister-in-law Margaret Gillingham as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of close and dear friends.  He will also be missed by the grand-furbabies.  Rest assured the treat bowl will always be on the kitchen counter.

Winston was a proud, kind, and hardworking man.   He grew up in Englee where he would begin his career in the fishing industry as plant manager with The Lake Group.  He later moved to St. John’s where he worked with Fishery Products International until his retirement. Retirement was short lived.  He began his second career with Lakecrest School where he worked for many years until his second retirement.  Never a man to be idle, and right up to the time he went in hospital, he had a project at home that he was working on.   He loved his family, he loved to travel and he loved his Tim’s tea. 10 AM and 3 PM like clockwork. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the HSC ICU for the wonderful care given to Winston and support of our family.  It is truly appreciated.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place.  Visitation is set to take place on July 27, 2023 at Carnell’s Funeral Home, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will take place at The Carnell Memorial Chapel on July 28, 2023 at 11:00 am. A private interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor to the ALS Society of Newfoundland.

Anne So sorry for your loss,, I was drawn to the obituary, because I thought I recognized him as someone else, but when I saw that he lived in Englee, I recognized Wilson. Not sure if you remember, but you and I worked together at the lake group in accounts, payable, you trained me in. And we went on to work and FBI together. Thinking of you at this time.

Rebecca and family,
My heart and thoughts are with you. I am so sorry for your loss.

Anne, so sorry to hear of Wince’s passing. We go back a long way, met him shortly after moving to St Anthony in 1979. At the time he worked with Lakes and I with FP Ltd. We became good friends and eventually we both worked for FPI. My fondest memory is of a fly in fishing trip we made to Labrador in 1985. He was a true gentleman, a positive man and always had a smile My condolences to you and the family, kind regards, Jack

I hadn’t seen Wince for years. It was my pleasure to work for him at FPI. We also had the Lake group in common. A quiet fellow with a good sense of humour. To his family go forward with your great memories.
